Sankhuwasabha, Nepal – A worker at the Arun III hydropower project has gone missing after being swept away by a river.

Ganga Bahadur Gurung, 45, from Khandbari Municipality-4 Sekaha, was working at the powerhouse in Chichila Rural Municipality-3 Pukhuwa when he disappeared. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at around 7:30 AM while he was crossing the Kaguwa River.

According to District Police Office Police Inspector Abhishek Kumar Shrestha, Gurung was returning home on vacation from the project site when he was swept away by the river.

A search operation involving Nepal Police, Armed Police, and residents is underway to locate the missing worker.

The Arun III hydropower project, a 900-megawatt project being developed by the Indian company SJVN, employs more than 3,000 workers, including both Nepalis and Indians. The project is expected to provide Nepal with 197 megawatts of free electricity and generate significant revenue through royalties and taxes.
