Kathmandu, Nepal – Anjila Tumbapo Subba, the captain and goalkeeper of the Nepali National Women’s Football Team, has made history by signing with Greece’s Women’s A Division League club Nees Atromitou. This marks her first venture into European football.
Subba, a longtime player for APF 6 domestic football, has previously competed in India and Pakistan. Her move to Nees Atromitos for the 2024-25 season is a significant step forward in her career.
Expressing her excitement, Subba stated, “I’m thrilled to be playing in the European League for the first time. It’s a dream come true for any player, and after years of hard work, I’m finally making it happen.”
Subba will become the second Nepali player to compete in Europe, following in the footsteps of Savitra Bhandari. Bhandari began her European journey in Israel and is currently playing for the French top-division club Guichamp.
Subba’s previous experience includes two seasons with Indian club Sethu FC and one season with a Pakistani club, where she also served as captain.
The recent trend of Nepali female footballers playing in foreign leagues has gained momentum, with players like Rekha Poudel making notable appearances in the UAE. Poudel’s contributions to Abu Dhabi Country, including her two goals in the Women’s Champions League, have highlighted the growing talent and potential of Nepali players on the international stage.
