According to a report by Victoria Kennedy published on Eurogamer, there was a Warhammer action RPG in the works at Thought Pennies, however this project was canceled due to a change in strategy by the publisher.
“Over the last three years here at Thought Pennies we have created something extraordinary,” said business director Daniel Erickson. “We never missed a milestone, the feedback was excellent, our partnership was strong. We went from two people and a PowerPoint presentation to a team of nearly sixty professionals. However, our publisher has changed strategic direction and our project is now without funding.”
Erickson did not specify what this project consisted of, but some employees who left the company following the cancellation of the game have included entries in their online resumes related to an unannounced Warhammer video game. This was reportedly “a cooperative PvE action RPG set in a dark fantasy world” and a “live service fantasy RPG” made with Unreal Engine 5. Since the term “fantasy” is thrown around several times, it’s unlikely that it was a video game about Warhammer 40,000, while it is possible that it was set in the world of Age of Sigmar or that of Warhammer Fantasy. In any case, whatever its setting, this project will never see the light of day.
