The latest Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) revision for central government employees and pensioners was announced on 28 October 2026, with an effective date of 1 July 2026. The rate was enhanced by 3% from the current 60% to 63%.
Now, going forward, the dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees could rise from the current 63% to 67% of basic pay, effective 1 January 2027. Based on the existing 7th Pay Commission formula, inflation trends, and the latest concluded meeting of the 8th Pay Commission panel in Mumbai, this could be the final DA revision before the 8th Pay Commission’s recommendations lead to a fresh payment structure and a comprehensive change in salary disbursement.
It is essential to keep in mind that the projection depends on the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). While the current 63% DA revision is dependent on the index readings from July 2025 to June 2026, the January 2027 instalment is going to be dependent on the average index for January to December 2026.
